When looking for articles about social networking, I came across an article, "Adolescent Peer Relationships and Behavior Problems Predict Young Adults: Communication in Social Networking Websites", by Joseph Allen from a magazine called Developmental Psychology.
This article focuses on the argument about individuals, especially adolescents, becoming less able to communicate well due to the boom in social networking websites. Many youths with socially awkward tendencies are drawn to the appeal of social networking websites because they are able to hide their short-comings behind a computer screen.
When children begin to use the sites as a main way of communication in their early lives, they lose the ability tohave good face-to-face communication skills as an adult.
After the youths et to about college age, the social networking becomes an asset because they have already developed their communication skills for the most part. The teen years are critical to learning god communication with others so when children think they are blending in with their friends, they are really hindering themselves from being well-rounded adults in teh long-run.
