Internet Addiction Disorder

Addiction to the internet is becoming a rapidly increasing disorder that is claim the social lives of many. It [Internet Addiction Disorder] is a psycho-physiological disorder involving tolerance, withdrawal symptoms, affective disturbances, and interruption of social relationships.



The video above is pretty funny and accurately depicts the symptoms of Internet Addiction Disorder.

Many people allow the internet to take over their lives so badly they can't even function to take care of their basic needs. They let trash pile up near their computer and they get very attached to their computer to the point that they will lash out at the first person that tries to get them to do anything besides play on the computer.

There is a great deal of anxiety associated with IAD. People make themselves sick because they are so anxious to get an email or instant message. This disorder is a severe condition that is sweeping all of the world.

When therapists treat individuals with this condition, they treat them like they would any other addict. They need to find what triggers the start of the computer-usage binge so that they can stop that from happening.

The therapist encourage the patients to just NOT use the internet for awhile until they have their problem completely out in the open. The best way to avoid these problems is to only use the internet if it is an absolute need to use the internet.
